PhysicsBowl
Masterclass.
Conquer the AAPT PhysicsBowl. Master high-speed physical intuition, split-second dimensional analysis, and secure your global Top 100 ranking in Division 1 or Division 2.
Why EduGlobal?
-
We train exclusively for the "67-Second Rule"βthe exact average time allowed per question.
-
Deep curriculum spanning Division 1 (AP Physics 1/2) and Division 2 (AP Physics C / Quantum).
-
Eliminate slow algebraic calculations by mastering dimensional analysis and limit checking.
What is the AAPT PhysicsBowl?
Sponsored by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), the PhysicsBowl is one of the most widely recognized high school physics competitions in the world. Annually, over 10,000 students from around the globe compete to test their absolute limits in theoretical and computational physics.
Unlike the USAPhO, which gives students hours to solve a handful of complex proofs, the PhysicsBowl is a pure test of speed and physical intuition. It demands that a student can read a complex scenario, instantly identify the governing physical law, and compute the answer in seconds.
The Format & The Divisions
- The 45-Minute Sprint: The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions to be completed in just 45 minutes. That is precisely 67.5 seconds per question.
- Division 1: Intended for students taking their first physics course (AP Physics 1 or Honors). Students answer questions 1 through 40. Topics lean heavily on classical mechanics, basic thermodynamics, and introductory electricity.
- Division 2: Intended for students in their second physics course (AP Physics C or equivalent). Students answer questions 11 through 50. This division introduces rigorous E&M, advanced rotational dynamics, optics, and modern/quantum physics.
- Scoring: 1 point per correct answer. There is no penalty for guessing, altering the mathematical test-taking strategy completely.
The High-Speed Strategy
You cannot solve PhysicsBowl questions using the slow, step-by-step methods taught in high school. To reach the global Top 100, students must bypass standard algebra using elite heuristic techniques.
Dimensional Analysis
Instead of solving a 3-minute algebraic derivation, we teach students to analyze the units of the multiple-choice answers. Often, 4 out of 5 answers can be eliminated instantly because they do not resolve to Joules, Newtons, or Teslas.
Limit Case Checking
We train students to test extremes (e.g., setting mass $m \to 0$ or angle $\theta \to 90^\circ$). If a multiple-choice formula gives a physically impossible result at an extreme, it is immediately discarded.
The Elite Curriculum Matrix
Our curriculum covers the entirety of the AAPT syllabus, ensuring rapid recall across both classical calculation and the notorious "trivia" sections of the exam.
Speed Mechanics
Division 1 & 2
- Kinematics & Projectiles: Instantaneous recognition of range, max height, and relative velocity formulas without re-deriving.
- Energy & Momentum: Rapidly solving 2D elastic collisions using center-of-mass reference frames.
- Rotational Dynamics: Parallel axis theorem, torque vectors, and rolling friction shortcuts.
Electromagnetism & Circuits
Division 2 Focus
- Electrostatics: Rapid Gaussβs Law evaluation, continuous charge distributions, and potentials.
- Circuit Logic: Kirchhoffβs loops, equivalent resistance of infinite grids, and RC/RL/LC time constants.
- Magnetic Induction: Faradayβs Law, Lenzβs Law, and motional EMF calculations.
Thermo, Fluids & Waves
Division 1 & 2
- Thermodynamics: PV diagrams, ideal gas law, heat engines (Carnot efficiency), and entropy.
- Fluids: Archimedes' principle, continuity, and Bernoulliβs equation.
- Optics & Acoustics: Snellβs Law, thin lenses, mirrors, double-slit interference, and the Doppler effect.
Modern Physics & Trivia
PhysicsBowl Exclusives
- Modern Physics: Special relativity, photoelectric effect, Bohr atom, and half-life decay.
- Astronomy & Constants: Kepler's laws, fundamental constants, and magnitude estimates.
- Historical Trivia: Unlike other exams, PhysicsBowl tests Nobel laureates, historical experiments, and physical milestones. We provide the master study sheet.
