The 39-Day Immersive
Operated in cooperation with Caltech, MIT, and Harvey Mudd, the Summer Science Program (SSP) is a 39-day residential enrichment program. It is widely recognized as one of the most intense, transformative, and prestigious STEM programs for high school juniors in the world.
Students work in highly collaborative teams of three. The daily schedule is relentless: lectures in the morning, intense wet-lab or coding sessions in the afternoon, and late-night celestial observations or bioinformatics analysis. Acceptance into SSP is highly indicative of future Ivy-League success, but the admissions committee looks for students who have already maxed out their high school's curriculum and are desperate for a greater intellectual challenge.
The Track Preparation Matrix
To gain admission, students must prove proficiency in the exact scientific discipline of their chosen track. We provide the foundational mastery.
Track 1: Astrophysics Preparation
The Project: Near-earth asteroid orbit determination using celestial mechanics and telescopic data.
Our Strategy: We aggressively tutor students in the strict prerequisites: AP Calculus and AP Physics (Mechanics). We also introduce foundational Python coding, which is absolutely critical for the data processing they will perform at camp.
Track 2: Biochemistry Preparation
The Project: Designing fungal crop pathogen inhibitors using wet-lab techniques and molecular modeling.
Our Strategy: We ensure students have mastered AP Biology and AP Chemistry. We supplement their knowledge with early college-level organic chemistry, enzyme kinetics, and protein structure visualization.
Track 3: Genomics Preparation
The Project: Simulating and analyzing the evolution of antibiotic resistance using chemostats and DNA sequencing.
Our Strategy: This track requires a hybrid of biology and computational data analysis. We train students on advanced genetic inheritance, statistical analysis (AP Stats), and basic bioinformatics frameworks.
The Narrative & Short Essays
SSP's application features unique short-answer questions. We help students craft narratives that highlight their collaborative abilities, resilience in the face of academic failure, and pure, unfiltered passion for science.
